Core Concepts (5 minutes)
Three Role Systems
Decision Site uses three independent role systems that work together:
1. Organization Roles (workspace access)
- Controls: Who can access your organization's workspace
- Four levels: ADMIN, CREATOR, COLLABORATOR, GUEST
- Assigned to: Internal team members and external users
2. Team Roles (team management)
- Controls: Who manages teams and their members
- Two levels: OWNER, MEMBER
- Assigned to: Team participants
3. Contact Roles (deal categorization)
- Controls: How stakeholders are tracked and scored
- Nine types: BUYER, SELLER, DECISION_MAKER, etc.
- Assigned to: Deal participants
Why Roles Matter
For Security:
- Prevent unauthorized access to sensitive deal information
- Control who can invite new members
- Limit who can change organization settings
For Workflow:
- Determine who can create new Decision Sites
- Control team collaboration
- Manage content editing permissions
For Analytics:
- Affect Deal Pulse scoring (BUYER activity counts 1.5x)
- Track stakeholder diversity
- Measure engagement patterns
Common Scenarios
Scenario 1: Setting up your organization
You're the first user → You're automatically an ADMIN → Invite teammates as CREATOR (if they'll create Decision Sites) or COLLABORATOR (if they'll only edit) → Keep ADMIN limited to 1-2 people who manage settings
You're joining an existing organization → You'll likely be CREATOR or COLLABORATOR → If you need different permissions, ask an ADMIN to change your role
Scenario 2: Sharing a Decision Site with buyers
External buyers joining → They'll be GUEST by default (view-only) → Assign them BUYER contact role for proper Deal Pulse scoring → Categorize as DECISION_MAKER, INFLUENCER, CHAMPION, or GATEKEEPER as appropriate
Internal team members joining → They use their organization role (ADMIN, CREATOR, or COLLABORATOR) → Assign them SELLER contact role → No need to invite - they already have access via organization membership
Scenario 3: Managing teams
Creating a team → You become team OWNER automatically → Invite members to the team → Team OWNERs can add/remove members and change settings → ADMINs can manage any team regardless of OWNER status
